Thomas Mautsch is a German mathematician, best known as the top-scoring member of the German Democratic Republic team at the 1990 International Mathematical Olympiad (Beijing), winning a Silver medal with 33 points at individual rank 24. A pupil of the Goethe-EOS in Luebben at the time, he studied mathematics at Humboldt-Universitaet zu Berlin, writing a Diplom thesis on Seiberg-Witten equations and contact manifolds under Thomas Friedrich (1995), and remained active in Berlin mathematical circles and the de.sci.mathematik usenet group into the 2000s.
