Replying to the post "Can someone explain the whole "Jan Mayen" thing.".

> When I was new at Paradox, one of my first assignments was to help with Heart of Darkness, which was in crunch/panic mode. One late night during that crunch, I noticed that the province of Jan Mayen not only existed but had 40k pop (it was set to temperate back then). After googling Jan Mayen I asked podcat why on earth it was even a province, and he trollingly replied 'you're right, it should be a country'.
>
> Ten minutes later, I sent him a screenshot of the new country of Jan Mayen, complete with polar bear flag.

> Why doesn't Europa Universalis IV have more cat events?

> Cats were not invented until 1838, along with monocles and top hats.

Replying to a redditor:

> I wonder whether it's an oversight or an intended feature. I assume It's because the game considers it as a friendly unit staying in the province which blocks automatic reoccupation.

> As the person who wrote a good chunk of the ZoC code in ages long gone I can tell you that this is 100% an oversight, it definitely just checks for hostile units without looking at whether they are boats.
