Replying to the post "Frankfurt datacenter rn".

> It was not quite this bad, but air temperatures inside the facility reached 50-60C according to our monitoring. That's enough to start killing multi-million euro server racks with powerful CPUs, GPUs, etc, just like an actual fire would. On site staff can't even enter without health risk.

> tl;dr, We knew about this potential failure mode, but not prioritized due to super low probability, but Murphy's law.... Servers are safe, but we couldn't do automated failover, so full recovery unfortunately took over an hour.

Replying to the post "When is 2 year unlimited plan coming back?".

> 2 year plans have been phased out for most products, but if you are an existing user on a two year plan, you are grandfathered. Even though it makes our life super painful due to the sheer number of plan combinations we maintain now, Proton will generally try to grandfather existing users forever so we don't raise or change prices for existing customers who don't modify their subscription.
>
> Proton is not primarily profit driven (the Proton Foundation is non-profit), so we do this as long as its financially viable. That's why our oldest plan, Proton Plus, is still the same price as it was when introduced in 2016, although we come under more pressure now from 9 years of inflation and the Swiss franc now being 25% stronger compared to the dollar that many users pay us with.
