> Remember that time you got killed at the bank? Was that beta? Strange how the chaos of UO made it so unique. Also, can I have 5 years of my life back? (jk, thanks for all the memories)

> Oh, so well! It was at the end of the Beta, giving a speech in Trinsic, a person named RAINZ cast a fire field around me. I thought I was immortal... but I had forgotten to set the immortality flag months previously.

> So I always wondered... Why "Lord British"?

> The summer I learned to play D&D, the group that introduced me to it made up nicknames for everyone else... They thought I had a British accent, which I don't, but since I WAS born in England the nickname for my characters became British, and then Lord British!

Replying to a redditor:

> HI Richard, just a thank you for Ultima VII 1+2 and VIII! Both parts of VII have remained my favorite games since I first played them a few years after their release. VIII was the first one I owned myself, so I am also very fond of this, disappointed the expansion never got…

> It was a sales related decision. Ultima VIII was the only Ultima to sell less than its predecessors. Assuredly due to it being rushed out, incomplete and buggy. Had we done our jobs correctly. Had I made the right decision. It would have been fine.
