I love building teams that solve problems. I'm an entrepreneur-at-heart taking big risks on ideas that I think need to exist. I'm currently setting up the African Olympiad Academy, a school for the top African Math & Science talent. I believe strongly that talent is universal while opportunity is not and we're working to change that. This is built on the foundations of the Rwanda Math Olympiad program that I started, and which has now scaled to working with 50,000+ students a year from 900+ schools, as well as growing to other subjects like Informatics, Physics and AI. I'm also the co-founder of Hence Technologies, an award-winning software company whose AI-driven product enables companies to better identify and mitigate the risks they face from geopolitical volatility, the declining rule of law, and AI. I helped build an incredible tech team primarily based in Kigali, Rwanda consisting of talent from across the continent. I'm always open to new conversations about education, talen

Notes
  • Earlier employment assessment (superseded): CONFIRMED. Identity is supported (IMO official record for Arun Chockalingam Shanmuganathan, NZ 2011/2012, cross-linked to the Cambridge/African Olympiad Academy profile - same field, same Rwanda venture). Employment: his role history lists actual quant-trader roles - Index Options Quant Trader at Citadel Securities (London, Oct 2018-Jul 2019) and Cash Equities CRB Quant Trader at UBS (London, Aug 2017-Oct 2018) - and third-party bios (MIT Sloan Africa Innovate Conference; an independent announcement) describe him as a 'former quant trader'. Caveat: the specific employers, titles and dates rest on the LinkedIn record alone and are NOT confirmed by an independent primary source, so treat those exact details as index-derived. Employer classification: Citadel Securities is a quantitative market maker and UBS is a global investment bank; both are genuine quantitative-finance employers (classification is not based on the word 'quant' in a name). No internship-only or student-program-only basis; student programs alone would not qualify.
  • Earlier employment assessment (superseded): UNRESOLVED. Identity is supported by independent sources (IMO official contestant record for Arun Chockalingam Shanmuganathan, NZ 2011/2012; a University of Cambridge page cross-linking the same person to the African Olympiad Academy - same field, same Rwanda venture). Employment evidence: the role history that names quantitative-trading jobs - Index Options Quant Trader at Citadel Securities (London, Oct 2018-Jul 2019) and Cash Equities CRB Quant Trader at UBS (London, Aug 2017-Oct 2018) - rests on the LinkedIn-derived index record alone; the MIT Sloan Africa Innovate announcement corroborates only that he worked as a 'quant trader' in general, without naming the employers. Employer classification: both employers are genuine quantitative-finance firms - Citadel Securities is a major electronic market-maker and UBS is a global bank with a large quantitative equities franchise - so the roles would qualify IF the index record is accurate. Verdict is UNRESOLVED rather than CONFIRMED because the specific roles/employers/dates are index-derived and lack independent primary-source confirmation; it is not NOT CONFIRMED, since the identity is supported and a third party independently describes him as a quant trader.
  • Earlier employment assessment (superseded): CONFIRMED (quant trading employment) — a Cambridge/AOA-linked bio describes him as a 'former quant trader', and his role history (Index Options Quant Trader at Citadel Securities, 2018-2019; Cash Equities CRB Quant Trader at UBS, 2017-2018, both London) fits that. The specific employers, titles and dates rest on the LinkedIn index record alone and are NOT independently confirmed by a primary source; Citadel Securities and UBS are both genuine quantitative market-making/banking firms, so the employer classification is consistent with quantitative finance. Identity is supported (IMO record + Cambridge/Rwanda overlap).
  • Quant employment verification: UNRESOLVED. The saved research did not establish a single unambiguous supported employment verdict. Existing employment claims and source qualifications are retained above; conflicting earlier assessments are superseded by this unresolved status. This is a review of the saved research, not new independent employment evidence.
  • Identity corroborated across independent sources: the IMO official contestant record lists Arun Chockalingam Shanmuganathan competing for New Zealand in 2011 (silver, 22 pts) and 2012 (honourable mention, 11 pts), and a University of Cambridge page names 'Cambridge mathematics alumnus Arun Shanmuganathan (Trinity)' who helped found the African Olympiad Academy - same field and Rwanda venture as the LinkedIn profile.
  • LinkedIn profile (index-based enrichment) lists quant roles: Index Options Quant Trader at Citadel Securities (London, 2018-2019) and Cash Equities CRB Quant Trader at UBS (London, 2017-2018). Index-only: the specific employers/titles/dates are not yet confirmed by an independent primary source.
  • Identity corroborated across independent sources, not only the index: the IMO official contestant record lists Arun Chockalingam Shanmuganathan competing for New Zealand in 2011 (silver, 22 pts) and 2012 (honourable mention, 11 pts); a University of Cambridge page independently names 'Cambridge mathematics alumnus Arun Shanmuganathan (Trinity)' who helped found the African Olympiad Academy - same field and same Rwanda venture, cross-linking the Olympiad identity to the Cambridge/entrepreneur identity.
  • LINKEDIN-INDEX-ONLY (not independent primary-source confirmation): the LinkedIn profile enrichment lists quant roles - Index Options Quant Trader at Citadel Securities (London, Oct 2018-Jul 2019) and Cash Equities CRB Quant Trader at UBS (London, Aug 2017-Oct 2018). These specific employers, titles and dates come from the LinkedIn-derived index record alone; no filing, press item or company page was found that independently names these roles. This is NOT primary-source confirmation.
  • Identity corroborated across independent sources, not just the index: the IMO official contestant record lists Arun Chockalingam Shanmuganathan competing for New Zealand in 2011 (silver, 22 pts) and 2012 (honourable mention, 11 pts), and the same person appears as 'Cambridge mathematics alumnus Arun Shanmuganathan (Trinity, 2014)' on a University of Cambridge page about the African Olympiad Academy — same field and Rwanda venture as the LinkedIn profile, which supports the identity link.
