IMO 2014 Silver Medal (Iran)PhD In Computer Science, EPFL - Causal Discovery/inferenceQuantitative Researcher (per LinkedIn Index)

I am currently a Quantitative Researcher at Citadel Securities, based in London. I recently completed my PhD in Computer and Communication Sciences at EPFL in Switzerland, where I worked on causality under the supervision of Prof. Negar Kiyavash. My research, rooted in statistics and machine learning, was presented in a thesis titled "Causal Discovery and Causal Effect Identification." I have a strong background in mathematics, with several medals from international competitions—most notably a silver medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in 2014.

Ehsan Mokhtarian is a computer scientist and quantitative researcher. He represented Iran at the 2014 International Mathematical Olympiad, winning a Silver Medal, then studied at Sharif University of Technology (BSc Electrical Engineering and BSc Computer Science, 2014-2019). He completed a PhD in Computer Science at EPFL, working on causal discovery and causal inference under Prof. Negar Kiyavash, with a thesis titled 'Causal Discovery and Causal Effect Identification' and publications in venues including JMLR, NeurIPS, AISTATS, ICLR and AAAI. A local LinkedIn index lists quantitative roles at Citadel Securities (London) and Pictet Asset Management (Geneva); those employment details are index-only and not independently confirmed.

Notes
  • Quant employment verification: UNRESOLVED. The only evidence of quantitative-finance employment is the local LinkedIn index record (role title/company/dates) plus aggregator mirrors; no independent primary source (company page, press release, personal site, bylined post) confirms any role. Identity is supported (IMO 2014 Iran + EPFL PhD + his X account), but the roles themselves remain index-only and must not be treated as independently confirmed.Sep 17, 2026
  • Indexed career timeline (UNVERIFIED, local LinkedIn index only): Quantitative Researcher, Citadel Securities, London - 2024 (internship-scale term) and 2025-present; Quantitative Research Analyst, Pictet Asset Management, Geneva - 2023; Quantitative Analyst, Pictet Asset Management, Geneva - 2023; Summer Research Intern, ETH Zurich SSRF 2018 (advisor Prof. Markus Puschel, signal processing on hypercube graphs); Summer Research Intern, CUHK Information Engineering 2017 (advisor Prof. Sidharth Jaggi, group testing); IEEE Sharif University Student Branch Chair 2016-2017.Sep 17, 2026
  • Employer classification: Citadel Securities is a global market maker and quantitative trading firm - it is a genuine quantitative-finance employer, so the indexed Quantitative Researcher role (if accurate) qualifies. Pictet Asset Management is a Swiss asset manager; the indexed roles sit in its Equity Total Return (ETR) team, manager Federico Cane - an asset-management (not pure market-making) quant role.Sep 17, 2026
  • Earned a PhD in Computer Science (thesis 'Causal Discovery and Causal Effect Identification') at EPFL under Prof. Negar Kiyavash; EPFL Graph Search lists him as having left EPFL. Education is source-supported.Jan 1, 2025
  • IMO 2014: Ehsan Mokhtarian represented the Islamic Republic of Iran and won a Silver Medal (rank 124, 78.0%, 22 points: 7/6/0/7/2/0). This is the Olympiad identity the task names.Jul 1, 2014
  • X account @EhsanMokhtarian (154 followers) bio: 'PhD candidate in computer science at @EPFL_en, working on Causal Discovery and Causal Inference. Interested in Finance and Genetics.' - confirms the EPFL causal-inference research identity and states an interest in finance.Sep 25, 2024
  • Research record on causal discovery/inference: publications across JMLR ('Recursive Causal Discovery'), NeurIPS, AISTATS, ICLR and AAAI; co-authors include Negar Kiyavash, Saber Salehkaleybar, AmirEmad Ghassami, Bernhard Scholkopf and Mrinmaya Sachan.Jan 1, 2023
  • Posted 2024-09-25 that two papers were accepted at NeurIPS 2024, indicating an active ML-research output through the end of the PhD.Sep 25, 2024
  • Pre-PhD education: BSc Electrical Engineering (2014-2019) and BSc Computer Science (2015-2019) at Sharif University of Technology; high school at Allame Helli 1 (mathematics-physics track). Consistent with entering university in Iran in 2014.Jan 1, 2019
  • GitHub account Ehsan-Mokhtarian (id 69685028) lists home location London, matching the London-based current role - a corroborating signal, though the profile carries no company field.Sep 17, 2026
