CS student at Cambridge (First Class), interested in how math and software get applied to real, high-stakes problems. Last summer at Marshmallow I built ML pricing models on millions of insurance quotes. The technical work was interesting — XGBoost, Snowflake, SageMaker — but what really stuck was something simpler: the right model, trained on the right data, makes better decisions than any human could at scale. A quiet modelling choice upstream quietly moves outcomes for real customers. I've also been through selective programmes at Jane Street, Citadel, and D.E. Shaw — talks, simulated challenges, time with people who think very carefully. Less about the finance and more about seeing what rigorous teams actually look like up close. This summer I'm at Carnegie Mellon as a visiting researcher, working with faculty including the head of the maths department on open problems in Markov chain mixing times and multicolor Ramsey theory.
