Ka-Shu Wong
Ka-Shu Wong is an Australian software engineer. He represented Australia at the 1999 International Olympiad in Informatics, winning a bronze medal while a Year 12 student at James Ruse Agricultural High School. He studied at the University of New South Wales, earning a BE/BSc in Software Engineering and Mathematics (2005, with the University Medal) and a PhD in Computer Science (2009). His PhD produced peer-reviewed work on knowledge representation and logic programming. He then joined the embedded-software spin-out Open Kernel Labs, working on the OKL4 microkernel, before software engineering roles at the high-frequency trading firm Zomojo and the low-latency networking vendor Exablaze. After Cisco acquired Exablaze, he was an Engineering Technical Leader at Cisco, and has been a Software Engineer at the quantitative trading firm Jump Trading LLC since 2023 (most recent role per a LinkedIn index record).
- Quant employment verification: UNRESOLVED. Identity is supported (IOI 1999 Australia + UNSW PhD + Exablaze email lineage all point to the same person). For quant-finance employment: Zomojo is confirmed an HFT firm and Exablaze confirmed a low-latency-networking vendor serving HFT/financial trading, both tied to him by the LinkedIn index plus independent corroboration (Keybase, Wireshark commits). Jump Trading is a genuine quantitative trading firm, but the 2023-present Software Engineer role rests only on the LinkedIn index, not an independent primary source. Because the purely-quantitative employer roles (Jump, Zomojo) rest mainly on index/social data rather than a primary employment source, the claim is retained as UNRESOLVED.2026
- Index-only LinkedIn record (ka-shu-wong-87a0994) lists Ka-Shu Wong as Software Engineer at Jump Trading LLC from 2023, Greater Sydney Area, 343 connections; this is aggregator/social-index data, not independent primary-source confirmation of the role.2026
- Career timeline from the index record (dates index-derived and not independently confirmed): Open Kernel Labs Senior Software Engineer 2008-2011; Zomojo Software Engineer 2011-2014; Exablaze Software Engineer 2014-2020; Cisco Engineering Technical Leader 2020-2023; Jump Trading LLC Software Engineer 2023-.2026
- Zomojo (2011-2014) was an Australian high-frequency trading firm (its listed sector was Financial Services; court records describe it as specialising in HFT, primarily on the Korean Stock Exchange) - so this index-listed role is a genuine quant-finance engineering role, not merely low-latency hardware.Feb 12, 2013
- The Australian Informatics Olympiad alumni record states that after IOI 1999 Ka-Shu Wong commenced a Science degree at UNSW in 2000, graduated in 2005 winning the University Medal, and then enrolled in a Computer Science PhD at UNSW, which he completed in 2009.2012
- Represented Australia at IOI 1999 (Antalya, Turkey) as a Year 12 student at James Ruse Agricultural High School, NSW, winning Bronze with 188/600, rank 96 of 253; teammates were David Cooper, Nigel Dahlenburg and Peter Hawkins, with Dr Robbie Gates as team leader.Oct 16, 1999
- Exablaze (2014-2020) was a Sydney-founded low-latency networking hardware company whose gear was explicitly positioned for high-frequency trading and financial trading; Cisco acquired it (announced Dec 2019, closing in Cisco FY2020 Q3), after which Wong's index entry shows an Engineering Technical Leader role at Cisco 2020-2023.Dec 17, 2019
- After completing his PhD, Wong joined UNSW spin-out Open Kernel Labs, which supplies embedded software for mobile phones, per a Sept 2009 AFR report - corroborating the index's Open Kernel Labs entry against a primary press source.Sep 28, 2009
- PhD thesis work 'Forgetting in logic programs' (UNSW, 2009) and peer-reviewed publications on knowledge representation: JAIR 2008 'Sound and Complete Inference Rules for SE-Consequence' and van der Meyden & Wong 'Complete Axiomatizations for Reasoning about Knowledge and Branching Time' (Studia Logica, 2003).2008
- Authored the Exablaze timestamping dissector committed to Wireshark (AUTHORS file lists 'Ka-Shu Wong <kswong[AT]exablaze.com>'), a public open-source contribution made during his Exablaze tenure.Jun 2018
- Competed for University of New South Wales in the 2000 ACM ICPC South Pacific region (team with Harvey Tuch and John Lai, listed as Australian Champions).2000
- Keybase account 'kswong' identifies Ka-Shu Wong as working at Exablaze in Sydney, an independent corroboration (outside LinkedIn) of both the employer and location.
