Kiril Bangachev
Kiril Bangachev is a theoretical computer science PhD student at MIT advised by Guy Bresler. His research spans high-dimensional statistics, random geometric graphs, and multimodal contrastive representation learning. He holds a BA in Mathematics from Princeton (adviser Matt Weinberg) and an MS from MIT, and was an IMO silver medalist for Bulgaria in 2017 and 2018. In summer 2025 he interned as a Quantitative Research Intern at Citadel's EQR group.

- Quant employment verification: CONFIRMED. CV lists 'Quantitative Research Intern at Citadel, EQR group, New York City, June 2025-August 2025' working on fast convex approximation algorithms for large-scale portfolio optimization. Citadel is a multistrategy hedge fund and market maker (quantitative finance). This is an actual internship, not a student program. Identity is supported by the CV (name, MIT, Princeton, IMO silver 2017/2018), the personal site, and the enrichment index. QuantCo (ML intern 2020) is a data-science/AI company (algorithmic pricing, insurance/enterprise analytics), NOT a trading or quant-finance firm, so it is excluded from the quant-finance classification.
- Citadel internship confirmed by primary self-published CV: Quantitative Research Intern in the EQR group, June-August 2025, focused on convex approximation algorithms for large-scale portfolio optimization.Dec 13, 2025
- Fourth-year PhD student at MIT advised by Guy Bresler, researching high-dimensional statistics and machine learning (multimodal contrastive representation learning); stated on his own site, corroborating the MIT role independently.Dec 13, 2025
- Alleged current role: Visiting Researcher at Alignment Research Center (Berkeley, CA), 2026-present, on AI alignment and interpretability. This is INDEX-ONLY (LinkedIn enrichment) and is NOT listed on his self-published CV dated 12/13/2025, so it is unconfirmed by primary sources.2026
- IMO Silver Medal in both 2017 and 2018 representing Bulgaria, per his CV honors; matches the task's Olympiad anchor.
- Published contact details on his own CV: email [contact omitted] and phone (+1) 609-874-4058.Dec 13, 2025
- Princeton BA Mathematics thesis 'Exploring the Space Between Subadditive and Fractionally Subadditive Valuations' (adviser Matt Weinberg), published at ICALP 2025 as joint work with S. M. Weinberg.2025
- MS thesis at MIT (Sep 2022-Sep 2024) 'Statistical and Computational Limits for Detection of High-Dimensional Latent Space Structure in Random Networks' under Guy Bresler.Sep 2024
- QuantCo ML internship (June-August 2020) worked on unbiased estimation of treatment effects; QuantCo is a Zurich/Boston data-science and AI firm serving insurance, healthcare and public-sector clients (algorithmic pricing, claims management, forecasting), so it is not a quant-trading or hedge-fund employer.Aug 2020
- Published conference papers at STOC 2024/2025, COLT 2024, ICALP 2025 and NeurIPS 2025, most co-authored with adviser Guy Bresler, plus journal papers in Random Structures & Algorithms and European J. Combinatorics.
- Won the Class of 1861 Prize (2020) for the best sophomore record on the Putnam Examination, indicating high competition-math standing continuing into college.2020
