Leo Varis
Finnish software engineer and IOI bronze medallist (2022, 2023).
- Quant employment verification: UNRESOLVED. The only evidence of a G-Research role is a LinkedIn index entry, labeled index-only and not independently confirmed: it lists Software Engineer at G-Research with a July 2026 start date, with no primary confirmation from G-Research, a press source, a resume, or a repository. The identity behind the profile is well supported (name, Finland, IOI record, GitHub account), but the employment claim is not. Employer classification: G-Research is a genuine quantitative-finance firm (quantitative investment/research, UK) and would qualify if the role were real; OpenBlock Labs, listed in the same index as a 2026 Member of Technical Staff role, is an AI-agent and crypto/DeFi analytics project, not a quantitative trading firm. CONFIRMED is withheld because the role rests on index-only evidence and its start date is uncorroborated; no student program or incoming offer is involved.Sep 2026
- Identity corroborated across independent primary sources: the official IOI statistics page (stats.ioinformatics.org/people/7452) and the CPHOF profile both list Leo Varis competing for Finland at IOI 2022 and 2023, matching the LinkedIn index profile carrying the same name and Finland/United Kingdom location.Sep 2023
- G-Research is a United Kingdom quantitative research and technology firm applying machine learning and large-scale data analysis to financial markets, recruiting quantitative researchers, quantitative developers and software engineers; its own careers pages list quantitative-researcher and quant-research-internship roles.Sep 2026
- All employment history is index-only (LinkedIn-derived) and none is independently confirmed: Software Engineer at Unity (Unity Ads backend, Go, 2023-2026), Software Developer Internship at Unity (2022), Software Developer and Teaching Assistant at the University of Helsinki (2021-2022), Military Service with the Finnish Defence Forces (2023-2024), and a 2026 Member of Technical Staff role at OpenBlock.Sep 2026
- Bronze medal at IOI 2023 with 216 points, stated on the official IOI 2023 results page hosted at hsin.hr.Sep 2023
- Bronze medal at IOI 2022 (Indonesia) with 147.3 points, stated on the CPHOF IOI 2022 standings page.Aug 2022
- Index lists a 2026 Member of Technical Staff role at OpenBlock (San Francisco) contributing to the OB-1 self-improving autonomous coding agent; OpenBlock Labs operates in the AI-agent and crypto/DeFi analytics space rather than quantitative trading, so this role would not count as quantitative-finance employment even if accurate.Sep 2026
- Education per index (uncorroborated outside the index): BSc Computer Science, University of Helsinki (2020-2022); MSc Computer Science, University of Helsinki (2022-2024); BSc Mathematics, Aalto University (2024-2026); high school at Martinlaakson lukio (2020-2023).Sep 2026
- GitHub account github.com/LeoVaris is linked from the index profile; no repositories of note were retrievable to corroborate professional projects or the G-Research role.Sep 2026
