Po-Shen Loh
American mathematician (b. 1982-06-18) specializing in combinatorics. Professor of Mathematics at Carnegie Mellon University; national coach of the USA International Mathematical Olympiad team 2014-2023. Founder of Expii and LIVE by Po-Shen Loh, lead developer of the NOVID contact-tracing app. BS Caltech 2004, MASt Cambridge 2005, PhD Princeton 2010.
- Quant employment verification: CONFIRMED. Po-Shen Loh's own CV (math.cmu.edu/~lohp/cv) lists 'The D.E. Shaw Group, New York, New York — Quantitative Analyst Intern, Summers 2005 and 2007' under Previous positions, and 'Microsoft Research, Seattle, Washington — Research Intern, Summer 2009'. The D.E. Shaw Group is a quantitative hedge fund / market-making firm, so this is an actual past internship in quantitative finance. Identity is supported: the CV is the CMU faculty CV of the same Po-Shen Loh (CMU Professor of Mathematics) whose olympiad and career identity is independently corroborated. The LinkedIn lead title 'Quantitative Analyst intern, 2007' understates the record: the CV shows two summers (2005 and 2007). Student programs, competitions, camps, and scholarships are explicitly excluded from this conclusion.2026
- No quantitative-finance employer appears in his current or post-PhD positions; the only quant-finance role is the two-summer D.E. Shaw analyst internship (2005, 2007) before his Princeton PhD, and his career since is academic (CMU Mathematics) plus education entrepreneurship.
