Sergey A. Dovgal

Quantitative Researcher at Squarepoint Capital; PhD in Computer Science (analytic combinatorics)
Squarepoint Capital · Switzerland · engineer

Sergey A. Dovgal is a quantitative researcher at Squarepoint Capital, a systematic investment manager, since December 2022. Before that he spent about six years in academia researching enumerative combinatorics, probability and random generation: PhD in Computer Science at Universite Sorbonne Paris Nord (thesis 'An interdisciplinary image of Analytic Combinatorics', 2019), postdocs at Universite de Bordeaux (2020-21) and Universite de Bourgogne (2021-22), and B.Sc./M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics from MIPT. He represented Belarus at the International Mathematical Olympiad in 2009 (silver) and 2010 (bronze).

During the last eight or so years I was doing research, programming and teaching. I was mainly settled in graph theory, random generation, optimisation and statistics. I have been teaching various courses at Russian and French facilities ranging from programming courses (C, Python, Matlab, etc) to theoretical ones (Optimisation, Functional Analysis, Discrete Mathematics).

Notes
  • Quant employment verification: CONFIRMED. Sergey A. Dovgal has worked as a Quantitative Researcher at Squarepoint Capital since December 2022, stated on his own personal website and corroborated by his LinkedIn profile (Quantitative Researcher at Squarepoint) and a lead411 directory listing. Squarepoint Capital's own website describes it as a global investment manager using 'systematic and quantitative strategies', i.e. a genuine systematic/quantitative fund, not merely a name containing 'quant'. The role is a full-time research position (not a student program or insight day), and the identity is supported by the cross-linked personal site, CV, IMO record and MIPT/Paris 13 education.Dec 2022
  • Identity cross-checked: personal site (sergey-dovgal.vercel.app), CV, LinkedIn and MIPT/MIPT education all describe the same person - a Belarusian-born mathematician who represented Belarus at IMO 2009 and 2010.Jun 2022
  • IMO identity confirmed on the official record: contestant id 18778, Belarus team, 2009 rank 130/565 (silver, 24 pts) and 2010 rank 167/565 (bronze, 19 pts); a distinct IMO contestant, not to be confused with the other Belarusian team members.2009
  • Working as a Quantitative Researcher at Squarepoint Capital since December 2022, stated on his own website; Squarepoint Capital is a systematic/quantitative investment manager, so this is a genuine quant-finance role.
  • Public CV email is [contact omitted] (listed on the short CV, June 2022).Jun 2022
  • Career arc is unusual for a quant: six years in academia (postdocs at Bordeaux 2020-21 and Bourgogne 2021-22, PhD at Sorbonne Paris Nord 2016-19) before moving into quantitative research in December 2022; the skill base (probability, combinatorics, random generation, optimisation, Python/C++) aligns with systematic research.Jun 2022
  • PhD thesis 'An interdisciplinary image of Analytic Combinatorics' (Université Sorbonne Paris Nord / Université Paris 13, 2019) is archived on HAL (tel-03212632).2019
  • PhD thesis 'An interdisciplinary image of Analytic Combinatorics' (Universite Sorbonne Paris Nord, 2019) is archived on HAL under tel-03212632, confirming the doctorate independently of LinkedIn.2019
  • Author of 10 papers with researchers from 9 universities (Nokia Bell Labs, IMB Dijon, LIPN, IRIF, Jagiellonian, Uppsala, Stellenbosch, Antananarivo, Academia Sinica).Jun 2022
  • Code lives primarily on GitLab (gitlab.com/sergey-dovgal) rather than GitHub; his CV-listed github.com/sergey-a-dovgal did not resolve to a live GitHub profile when fetched, so the GitLab account is the reliable code identity.Jun 2022
  • ORCID iD 0000-0002-7134-7488 aggregates his publication record under the name 'sergey dovgal'.
  • Google Scholar profile (user yIfJmgYAAAAJ) lists him at Universite de Bourgogne with verified email at u-bourgogne.fr and research focus in combinatorics.
