Sivert Bocianowski
Sivert Bocianowski (now publicly Sivert Poulsson Beer) is a Norwegian mathematician and data scientist in Oslo. He competed for Norway at the International Mathematical Olympiad in 2008 and 2009, earning an honourable mention both years. He studied theoretical mathematics at the University of Oslo (bachelor 2010-2015) with an exchange year in mathematics and cryptography at the University of Warsaw (2013), and completed a master's in mathematics at UiO (2018-2019). His career ran through actuarial work at If Insurance (2020-2021), a Quantitative Researcher role at the Oslo fintech Exabel (2021-2022) and an Investment Associate role at the Awilhelmsen investment company AWC AS (2021-2023), then data science at insurer Fremtind (2023-2025). Since about September 2025 he has been a Manager in BearingPoint's Data Science & AI team in Oslo.
- Quant employment verification: CONFIRMED. Supported identity: the LinkedIn slug sivert-bocianowski-6224b464 (index label taiga-408010376) now resolves to Sivert Poulsson Beer (b. 1990, Oslo), the same olympiad contestant (IMO 2008 & 2009, Norway) - a continuous numeric profile ID links the two names. Actual roles, not student programmes: (1) Quantitative Researcher, Exabel, Oslo, 2021-04 to 2022-04 (index/LinkedIn backbone) - a real quantitative research role, but Exabel is an alternative-data analytics/fintech vendor selling data to investment teams, NOT a fund, bank trading desk, market-maker or proprietary trader. (2) Investment Associate, AWC AS, 2021-2023 - a genuine investment role at the Norwegian investment company (Awilhelmsen family office), whose group wholly owns SRN AS, a 'Norwegian quantitative research and trading technology company' that runs the Sherwood Fund's proprietary trading platform and quantitative research/trade execution, plus Sherwood Research UK Ltd (one quant researcher). So quantitative-finance exposure exists at the group level and via an explicitly quantitative role title, but no evidence places him personally at SRN, on a trading desk, or at a bank/asset-manager/energy/crypto trading firm. Earlier actuarial work at If Insurance (2020-2021) is quantitative but insurance, not markets. Verdict CONFIRMED on the existence of actual quantitative employment; employer classification is analytics-vendor plus family-office investment group with an in-group systematic-trading subsidiary, not a hedge fund or market-maker.May 2026
- Same LinkedIn numeric ID (6224b464) now resolves to the name 'Sivert Poulsson Beer' (b. 1990), so the olympiad-era name Sivert Bocianowski and the current public name are the same person; both carry the identical profile slug.
- AWC AS, his employer 2021-2023, sits inside the Awilhelmsen Group, which wholly owns SRN AS (org.no. 933 341 259), 'a Norwegian quantitative research and trading technology company' that develops a proprietary trading platform and conducts quantitative research and trade execution for the Sherwood Fund (a Luxembourg SICAV-RAIF), plus Sherwood Research UK Ltd which exists to employ one UK-based quantitative researcher. His employer's group therefore does operate a genuine systematic-trading outfit, though his own title was Investment Associate at the holding/investment level, not at SRN.May 2026
- Joined BearingPoint as Manager in its Data Science & AI team (Oslo); a BearingPoint welcome post dates the start, and his own post marks the move from Fremtind. Suggests a step up from in-house data scientist to consulting leadership.Sep 2025
- Held a Quantitative Researcher role at Exabel (Oslo fintech) 2021-2022 concurrently with an Investment Associate role at AWC AS (an investment company); the concurrency suggests overlapping part-time or advisory engagements rather than two simultaneous full-time posts.
- Was a Data Scientist at Norwegian insurer Fremtind (pricing/customer team) from 2023 until leaving for BearingPoint; coworkers publicly praised his ML work there.Sep 2025
- Exabel is an alternative-data analytics/fintech platform for investment teams (raised $9m seed led by AWC), not a hedge fund, market-maker, or proprietary trading firm - so the 'Quantitative Researcher' title there is data/analytics work, not trading-desk employment.Mar 10, 2021
- Exabel and AWC are the same investment ecosystem: AWC led Exabel's $9m seed round and AWC's CEO Arve Ree is tied to Exabel's board/team. His 2021-2022 Exabel Quantitative Researcher role and 2021-2023 AWC Investment Associate role therefore sit inside one Awilhelmsen-backed network rather than being two independent moves, which suggests the roles were related engagements.Mar 10, 2021
- AWC AS is a Norwegian investment company (family office of the AWilhelmsen group) making long-term private and listed equity investments; his title there was Investment Associate, an investing role, not a quantitative trading role.Mar 2026
- Represented Norway at the International Mathematical Olympiad in both 2008 and 2009, winning an honourable mention (HM) each year - a two-time national-team olympiad contestant.Jul 2009
- Norwegian media (Teknisk Ukeblad) covered him as a maths talent from Ski in 2008; a local paper reported he would begin mathematics and informatics studies at the University of Oslo.Jul 2008
- Worked as an Actuary at If Insurance (If P&C) 2020-2021, between his master's and the Exabel/AWC period - quantitative insurance work that predates the investment roles.
