Computational scientist and quantitative risk professional; IOI medallist for Belarus (silver 1992, gold 1993). Ph.D. University of Chicago (2004); B.S. Belarus State University (1998). Career spans computational biology research, Goldman Sachs quantitative risk roles (2014-2021), and Google (2021-).

Vladimir Belyi is a computational scientist and quantitative risk professional. He competed for Belarus at the International Olympiad in Informatics (1991, 1992, 1993), earning a silver medal in 1992 and a gold medal in 1993. He holds a B.S. from Belarus State University (1998) and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago (2004), then worked in computational and systems biology as a research associate, an Institute for Advanced Study member, and a tenure-track assistant professor at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Notes
  • Quant employment verification: CONFIRMED. Primary-source support: the Institute for Advanced Study's own scholar page independently lists two Goldman Sachs Vice President appointments - 'Vice President of Credit Risk Strategy' (2014-2018) and 'Vice President of ML/AI/Risk Quant' (2019-2021) - which are actual held roles (not competitions, camps, insight days, scholarships or student programs) at Goldman Sachs, a global investment bank whose Global Markets/risk strats are quantitative finance functions; these are corroborated by the LinkedIn-derived work history (Credit Risk Strat 2014-2018; ML/AI/Risk Quant 2019-2021). Identity is supported: the same IAS page ties the person to a Belarus State University B.S. (1998), aligning with the Belarus IOI 1991-1993 competitor's timeline. Employer classification: Goldman Sachs operates in quantitative finance; the named strat/risk-quant roles are quantitative. The current Google (2021-) role is NOT a quantitative-finance role and is excluded.
  • Earned a gold medal at IOI 1993 (rank 11, 186/200) and a silver medal at IOI 1992 (rank 30, 185/200), competing for Belarus; also competed at IOI 1991 (rank 48, 96/200).Oct 25, 1993
  • Career timeline per the Institute for Advanced Study appointments listing: Senior Software Engineer at Golden Software of Belarus (1995-1998), Research Associate at University of Massachusetts (2004-2007), IAS Member (2007-2011), Assistant Professor at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey (2011-2014), Goldman Sachs (2014-2021), Google (2021-).
  • Held two successive Goldman Sachs Vice President roles: 'Vice President of Credit Risk Strategy' (2014-2018) and 'Vice President of ML/AI/Risk Quant' (2019-2021), both named on the IAS scholar page - i.e. quantitative risk roles at a global investment bank, not merely a name containing 'quant'.
  • Identity link between the IOI competitor and the LinkedIn profile: the IAS scholar page records a Belarus State University B.S. in 1998, consistent with an entrant who finished secondary school around the 1991-1993 IOI contests; the IOI competitor's Belarus State University enrollment (1993-1998) is stated only by the LinkedIn/index sources, so the olympiad-to-career link rests on that education/timeline alignment rather than a single source naming both.
  • Education: Ph.D. from the University of Chicago (2004) and B.S. from Belarus State University (1998), per the Institute for Advanced Study scholar page.
  • Research at IAS spanned statistical mechanics and comparative genomics (genome evolution, structure-sequence relations, optimization of genomic code) during a 2007-2012 Natural Sciences affiliation.2011
  • Index/aggregator claim (not independent primary confirmation): RocketReach lists 'Google 2021-now', Goldman Sachs VP ML/AI/Risk Quant 2019-2021, and VP Credit Risk Strat 2014-2018; this is a data-broker aggregation, so treat it as index-only corroboration of the LinkedIn-derived roles.
