Zsuzsanna (Zsuzsa) Baran is a Hungarian mathematician and probability researcher. She competed for Hungary at the International Mathematical Olympiad (2015, 2016, 2017) and was a multiple EGMO gold medallist. She completed a PhD in mathematics at the University of Cambridge (Oct 2021 - Aug 2025) supervised by Perla Sousi, and since September 2025 is a postdoctoral researcher at Universite Paris-Dauphine (CEREMADE) with Justin Salez.

Zsuzsanna (Zsuzsa) Baran is a Hungarian probabilist. She represented Hungary at the International Mathematical Olympiad (2015-2017, three bronze medals) and won EGMO gold in 2015, 2016 and 2017, later serving as Hungary's EGMO Deputy Leader (2022-2024). She completed a PhD in mathematics at the University of Cambridge (Oct 2021 - Aug 2025) supervised by Perla Sousi, and since September 2025 is a postdoctoral researcher at Universite Paris-Dauphine (CEREMADE) with Justin Salez under the ERC CUTOFF project.

Notes
  • Quant employment verification: UNRESOLVED. The only employment claim in quantitative finance is a 'Trading Intern' role at Jane Street (Jul-Sep 2020), and it rests solely on a LinkedIn-derived people index (headline 'Student at University of Cambridge'), not on any primary or employer source I could read; the caller-supplied role dates are likewise unverified. Her identity is independently supported (Cambridge PhD, Fazekas, Hungarian IMO/EGMO record), and Jane Street is a proprietary quantitative trading firm, so IF the index claim is accurate it would qualify as a quant-finance internship; but as the evidence stands the claim is unconfirmed and should be treated as uncertain. No other bank, asset-manager, energy, crypto or hedge-fund role (past or internship) surfaced in any source family.Jul 2020
  • Postdoctoral researcher at Universite Paris-Dauphine (CEREMADE) since September 2025, working with Justin Salez on the ERC project CUTOFF.Sep 2025
  • Three EGMO golds (2015-17), then a Cambridge probability PhD (2021-25) and a postdoc (2025): her public record is an academic mathematics trajectory whose only non-academic item is a 2020 summer internship, so finance is not the documentary center of her record.Sep 2025
  • PhD in mathematics at the University of Cambridge, Oct 2021 - Aug 2025, supervised by Perla Sousi; research on mixing times and intersections of random walks.Aug 2025
  • Index-only claim of a 'Trading Intern' role at Jane Street (Jul-Sep 2020) comes solely from a LinkedIn-derived people index; no primary source independently confirms it.Jul 2020
  • Public academic email [contact omitted] listed on her CEREMADE homepage, alongside a portrait photo.Sep 2025
  • Authored 'Intersections of branching random walks on Z^8', to appear in the Annals of Applied Probability (arXiv 2410.13834).Oct 2024
  • Returned to EGMO as a Deputy Leader for Hungary in 2022, 2023 and 2024 - team staff (coaching/leadership) rather than contestant, overlapping her Cambridge PhD years and indicating continued involvement in Hungarian olympiad training.Apr 2024
  • Co-authored 'Phase transition for random walks on graphs with added weighted random matching' (with Andela Sarkovic, Perla Sousi and Jonathan Hermon), Probability Theory and Related Fields, 2024.Jan 2024
  • Represented Hungary at the IMO in 2015, 2016 and 2017, earning a bronze medal each year (totals 15, 20 and 18; overall ranks 217, 169 and 139).Jul 2017
  • Won EGMO gold medals for Hungary in three consecutive years (2015, 2016, 2017), scoring 29, 36 and 36 - a three-year run at the top of the European girls' contest.Apr 2017
  • Recurring co-authors are Andela Sarkovic, Perla Sousi (her PhD supervisor) and Jonathan Hermon, plus Allan Sly on a small-world-network paper - a Cambridge probability group cluster rather than a finance network.Sep 2025
