Aldo Pratelli is an Italian mathematician specialising in the calculus of variations, optimal mass transportation and geometric inequalities. Born in Pisa in 1977, he represented Italy at the International Mathematical Olympiad in 1995 (bronze) and 1996 (silver), studied at the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, and has held professorships at Pavia, Erlangen (Germany) and, since 2018, the University of Pisa. He is known for the sharp quantitative isoperimetric inequality with Fusco and Maggi (Annals of Mathematics, 2008), has won an ERC Starting Grant and multiple prizes, and served on the Italian IMO committee from 2006 to 2016. He has around 900 citations on Google Scholar.

Aldo Pratelli (born 10 December 1977, Pisa) is an Italian mathematician and Full Professor of Mathematical Analysis at the University of Pisa. He represented Italy at the International Mathematical Olympiad in 1995 (bronze, North York) and 1996 (silver, Mumbai), and later served on the Italian IMO committee from 2006 to 2016. A graduate of the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa (undergraduate 2000 and PhD 2003, both cum laude, under Luigi Ambrosio), he works on the calculus of variations, optimal mass transportation, isoperimetric and geometric inequalities, and non-local energies. He held positions at Pavia and Erlangen before returning to Pisa in 2018, won an ERC Starting Grant (2010-2015), and is best known for the sharp quantitative isoperimetric inequality with N. Fusco and F. Maggi (Annals of Mathematics, 2008). He has authored 80+ papers and is a frequent speaker at international analysis conferences.
