Andrea Maffei

Andrea Maffei is a mathematician at the Università di Pisa, where he is an associate professor in the Dipartimento di Matematica 'Leonida Tonelli'. He works in algebraic geometry, Lie theory and representation theory, with research on quiver varieties, complete symmetric varieties and affine Grassmannians, frequently collaborating with Rocco Chirivi, Corrado De Concini and Pierluigi Littelmann. Before Pisa he completed a laurea (1994) and then a PhD in mathematics at Sapienza University of Rome (1999). As a high-school student he represented Italy at the International Mathematical Olympiad in 1988 (bronze) and 1989 (honourable mention) and won the Italian national olympiad gold in 1988.
