Birgit van Dalen

Birgit van Dalen is a Dutch mathematician, mathematics teacher and olympiad organiser. She represented the Netherlands at the 2002 International Mathematical Olympiad, earning an Honourable Mention. She completed a PhD in mathematics at Leiden University in 2011 on discrete tomography, then moved into secondary mathematics teaching (ISW Hoogeland in Naaldwijk). She is a central figure in Dutch and European olympiad mathematics: chair of the organising committee for EGMO 2020 in the Netherlands, chair of the EGMO Advisory Board, and a board member of the Nederlandse Wiskunde Olympiade. With Quintijn Puite and Julian Lyczak she has written olympiad training books and many popular-mathematics articles in Pythagoras, Euclides and Nieuw Archief voor Wiskunde.
