Javier de la Nuez González

Mathematician in geometric group theory and model theory; former IMO competitor (Spain 2005, 2006)
University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) · academic

Javier de la Nuez González is a Spanish mathematician working in geometric group theory, model theory of groups, and low-dimensional topology. As a schoolboy he represented Spain twice at the International Mathematical Olympiad, earning an Honorable Mention in 2005 and a Bronze Medal in 2006. He completed a PhD in mathematics at Universität Münster in 2016 with a thesis on expansions of non-abelian free groups by cosets of a finite index subgroup, and subsequently held a postdoctoral position at the Korea Institute for Advanced Study (KIAS), where he worked on the model theory of the curve graph and on first-order rigidity of homeomorphism groups with Sang-hyun Kim and Thomas Koberda. He is now a doctor-investigator affiliated with the GRECA research group at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU).
