Josef Ševčík is a Slovak mathematical talent who represented Slovakia at the 40th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), held in Bucharest, Romania, in July 1999. A third-year student at Gymnázium Grösslingová 18 in Bratislava, he won silver for Slovakia with 19 points out of 42 on the six IMO problems, sharing rank 95 with teammate Balázs Keszegh on a six-person Slovak team that finished 21st overall with 88 points. Earlier that season he won the national round (category A) of the 48th Czechoslovak Mathematical Olympiad with 23 points and placed 3rd-4th at the Slovak IMO selection camp with 36.5 points. He returned to the national olympiad in 1999/2000 (12th in category A) but did not contest a second IMO.
