Juan Brieva Ramírez (b. 2001, Valladolid) is a Spanish mathematician. He represented Spain at the International Mathematical Olympiad 2019 (Bath), earning an Honourable Mention with 14 points, after winning Gold at the 56th Spanish Mathematical Olympiad. He holds a Double Bachelor's in Mathematics and Engineering Physics from the elite CFIS-UPC programme in Barcelona (GPA 9.31/10), undertook research at the University of Oxford (symplectic geometry) and ICMAT (Beltrami fields, elliptic curves), and is currently an M2 Master of Fundamental Mathematics student at IMJ-PRG, Université Paris Cité, funded by a PGSM Master scholarship. His interests span geometry, algebra, number theory and mathematical physics.

Notes
  • Won an Honourable Mention at IMO 2019 (Bath, UK) with 14 points, ranked 345/621, representing Spain - only six students represent Spain each year at the IMO, so this is a top-tier junior-mathematics signal.Jul 2019
  • Graduated from CFIS-UPC, an elite interdisciplinary honours centre at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, with GPA 9.31/10 (Maths) and 9.23/10 (Engineering Physics) - a top-of-cohort record sustaining a research-mathematics trajectory.2025
  • Medalled at the International Mathematics Competition (IMC) for university students with Bronze in both 2024 and 2023, showing olympiad-level ability carried into competitive university mathematics, not a one-off school result.Aug 2024
  • Won Gold at the 56th Spanish Mathematical Olympiad (2019) as a Valladolid UVa-district representative, the national selection route to the IMO team.Apr 2019
  • Holds a PGSM Master scholarship funding his M2 at Université Paris Cité - an external competitive award marking him as a recruited research prospect, not merely an admitted student.2025
  • Pursues a research career across pure and mathematical physics - Oxford (symplectic geometry), ICMAT (Beltrami fields, elliptic curves) - showing deliberate intent to work at the geometry/algebra/mathematical-physics interface rather than a single subfield.2024
  • Silver at the 2020 Spanish Physics Olympiad (OFE) alongside a 2020 Spanish Mathematical Olympiad (OME) Silver, so his excellence spans physics and mathematics rather than mathematics alone - consistent with the CFIS double-degree choice.2020
  • Email [contact omitted] and GitHub juanbri02 are published on his personal site contact section; the GitHub account is low-activity (2 public repos, 0 followers), suggesting public code is not where he works.2026
  • Funded CFIS full tuition and accommodation scholarship across his bachelor's on academic merit, then the FSMP PGSM Master scholarship for his M2 - two consecutive competitive external fundings mark a consistently funded research trajectory.2025
  • Placed 38/120 at SWERC 2023 (ICPC regional contest) and helped run UPC's 10-hour weekly contest preparation - competitive programming is a real, sustained secondary skill, not incidental.2023
  • Attended CRM's summer school (2022) on flexible polyhedra and the Bellows Conjecture tutored by Martin Sombra, adding discrete/geometric combinatorics to a portfolio otherwise centred on symplectic geometry and PDE - broad geometric reach.Jul 2022
  • Maintains a personal academic site (juanbri.es) documenting research, coursework and contact - an unusual degree of professional self-presentation for a master's student.2026
