Martin A. Roller is a German mathematician best known for representing West Germany at the International Mathematical Olympiad in 1977 (Belgrade) and 1978, winning a bronze medal each year. He went on to take a PhD at the University of Cambridge in 1988 under Charles B. Thomas with the thesis 'Splitting Theorems for Poincare Duality Groups', and became a geometric group theorist and low-dimensional topologist. His research spans Poincare duality groups, group actions on CAT(0) cube complexes and trees, and the topology of ends of groups, much of it carried out at the University of Regensburg. He co-edited the two-volume 'Geometric Group Theory' (London Mathematical Society Lecture Note Series, 1993) with Graham A. Niblo and authored 'Constructing Group Actions on Trees' in that collection. MathSciNet indexes 8 of his publications beginning 1988, cited 129 times.

Martin A. Roller (published also as M. A. Roller) is a German mathematician. As a school student he represented West Germany at the IMO in 1977 and 1978, earning bronze medals both years. He completed a PhD in mathematics at the University of Cambridge in 1988, advised by Charles B. Thomas, on 'Splitting Theorems for Poincare Duality Groups'. He subsequently worked in geometric group theory and topology - notably with P. H. Kropholler on ends of groups and duality groups - and co-edited the influential two-volume 'Geometric Group Theory' (1993) with Graham A. Niblo. His work is associated with the University of Regensburg.
