NDNikolai Durov

A prodigy who represented Russia at the IOI in 1995-1998 (one gold, three silver) and won IMO gold in 1996-1998, he won the ACM ICPC World Championship with Saint Petersburg State University in 2000 and 2001. He holds two doctorates in mathematics (SPbSU 2005; University of Bonn 2007 under Gerd Faltings) and remains a Senior Research Fellow at the Steklov Mathematical Institute. Inside the Durov companies he is the technical pillar: he built VK's server infrastructure, designed Telegram's MTProto cryptographic protocol, and authored the TON blockchain whitepaper, the Fift language and the TVM specification. Reserved and rarely seen in public, he lives in Los Angeles and launched a reasoning-AI project, VISION (visb.org), with an alpha slated for September 2026.
