He earned a Ph.D. in Computer Science from The University of Texas at Austin in 2008 under advisor Peter Stone, with a dissertation on autonomous sensor and action model learning for mobile robots, and previously studied at Harvard University (1997-2001). He represented the United States at the 1997 International Mathematical Olympiad, winning a silver medal with 29 points. Notes
  • Quant employment verification: CONFIRMED — actual past/present roles plus a supported identity. Morgan Stanley is a global investment bank whose Institutional Securities division runs credit-derivatives trading desks, so the 'trading strategist' role modeling illiquid credit derivatives is a quantitative-finance role. Two Sigma Investments is a technology-driven quantitative investment manager / hedge fund, so 'Quantitative Analyst' is squarely quantitative finance. The Morgan Stanley role is corroborated by a UT Austin department page; the Two Sigma role rests on the LinkedIn profile and index/aggregator records only (see separate index-only note).Sep 2026
  • PROFILE-EMPLOYMENT (primary): the UT Austin AI-Lab page states 'After graduating, Dan joined Morgan Stanley as a trading strategist to model the behavior of illiquid credit derivatives' — a university-department source, not an index, confirming the Morgan Stanley role and its quant-derivatives desk function.2008
  • Identity supported across independent sources: UT Austin AI-Lab people page, Mathematics Genealogy Project (id 208645) and LinkedIn all describe the same Daniel (Adam) Stronger with a UT Austin CS Ph.D. and Peter Stone as advisor; this matches the Harvard and IMO 1997 details on LinkedIn.2008
  • Ph.D. Computer Science, University of Texas at Austin, 2008; dissertation 'Autonomous Sensor and Action Model Learning for Mobile Robots', advisor Peter Stone — an AI/robotics doctorate, not a finance degree.2008
  • INDEX-ONLY: The Two Sigma 'Quantitative Analyst' role (2012-present) is reported by the LinkedIn profile and by aggregator records (e.g. Lead411 listing him as 'Two Sigma | Quantitative Analyst'); no independent primary-source page (company page, filing, press) was found naming him at Two Sigma, so this employment should be labelled index/LinkedIn-only rather than independently confirmed.
  • Trajectory read: a Harvard undergraduate, IMO silver medalist and robotics/AI Ph.D. transitions directly into a credit-derivatives modeling desk at Morgan Stanley in 2008 and then to a quantitative investment manager (Two Sigma) by 2012 — a consistent quantitative-modeling career arc across academia and finance, with no public record found of any other employer.2012
  • His UT Austin homepage (archived) lists him as a 7th-year Ph.D. student in 2008 who was applying to faculty positions for the following fall; the AI-Lab page shows he instead went to Morgan Stanley, so the academic job search did not result in a faculty role.2008
  • Morgan Stanley tenure runs 2008-2012 (~4 years) per LinkedIn, immediately after the 2008 Ph.D., after which the transition to Two Sigma occurred in 2012.2012
  • Public contact: a gmail address ('dan stronger [at] gmail com') is published on his UT Austin AI-Lab people page.2008
  • Research output spans robot learning and RoboCup: 11 listed publications on the AI-Lab page including 'Polynomial Regression with Automated Degree' (IJAIT 2008) and 'Towards Autonomous Sensor and Actuator Model Induction on a Mobile Robot' (Connection Science 2006).2008
  • Represented the United States at the 1997 International Mathematical Olympiad (Mar del Plata), scoring 29 points across six problems (7,7,4,7,3,1) and earning a silver medal, tied for 70th overall.Jul 1997
  • Career timeline completeness: the earliest employment found is Morgan Stanley (2008); the latest is Two Sigma (2012-present, index-only). No internships or earlier finance roles appear in any source, consistent with a straight academia-to-quant path.Sep 2026
