Esteban José Arreaga Ambéliz

Guatemalan mathematician. As a 5th-year bachillerato student at Colegio El Roble he competed for Guatemala at the 49th International Mathematical Olympiad (Madrid, July 2008), scoring 15 points (rank 238, 55.7%) and winning the bronze medal - the first IMO medal ever won by a Guatemalan. He was trained by fellow Guatemalan Pedro Morales, then a Baylor University mathematics doctoral student. He went on to study mathematics at IMPA (Instituto de Matematica Pura e Aplicada) in Rio de Janeiro, completing a master's degree in 2017, and has worked in commutative algebra and algebraic geometry.
