Pestana Giglio first surfaced in national olympiads in 2020 with a bronze at OBM level 3, and rose steadily: silver in 2021, gold in 2022, and a place on Brazil's international teams. In July 2023 he was one of six students representing Brazil at IMO 2023 in Chiba, Japan, earning a bronze medal (24 points; Brazil finished 16th). Two months later he took gold for Brazil at the 38th Ibero-American Mathematical Olympiad in Rio de Janeiro with a perfect 40 points. He enrolled at PUC-Rio's Department of Mathematics via the 'Desafios' scholarship program, and in 2024 won gold at the IMC (International Mathematics Competition for University Students) in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria.
