Manfred Brandt represented the German Democratic Republic at the International Mathematical Olympiad in 1964 (bronze, rank 26) and 1965 (silver, rank 19). He went on to earn a doctorate in mathematics at Humboldt-Universitat zu Berlin in 1973 and built an academic publication record of 22 papers indexed in MathSciNet, spanning complex analysis, probability/stochastic processes and operations research.

Manfred Brandt was a mathematician from the German Democratic Republic. He was selected for the GDR team at the International Mathematical Olympiad twice: in 1964 (Moscow) he placed 26th and took bronze with 29 points, and in 1965 (Berlin) he placed 19th with a silver medal and 30 points. He went on to study mathematics in East Berlin, receiving his doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.) from Humboldt-Universitaet zu Berlin in 1973 for a thesis in complex/functional analysis.
