MLMatthias Langer
Glasgow, United Kingdom · academicMatthias Langer is an Austrian mathematician working in functional analysis, operator theory and differential equations. He studied at the Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien), where he received his PhD, and held post-doctoral positions at the University of Leicester, the University of Bremen and TU Wien before joining the University of Strathclyde in 2004, where he is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. He was a Visiting Professor at TU Wien in 2013 and 2014 and has three times been a Visiting Fellow at the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences. His research spans spectral theory of block operator matrices, indefinite inner product spaces, canonical systems, and inverse problems with applications to non-destructive testing, liquid crystals, networks and quantum mechanics. As a school student he represented Austria at the International Mathematical Olympiad, winning bronze in 1990 and silver in 1991.
