Tanui Shawn Kimutai

Tanui Shawn Kimutai (also listed as Shawn Kimutai) is a Kenyan secondary-school student who represented Kenya at the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad held in Shanghai in July 2026. Selected purely on merit from a national pool of over 16,000 learners through three rounds of testing organised by the Kenya Mathematics Olympiad, he was one of five students on Team Kenya alongside Baraka Muturi Mulwa, Gilbert Amani Ongoro, Jed Oloo Odundo and Alvin Jamie Thilak Komu, led by Dr James Katende (University of Nairobi) and Martin Mungai (CEMASTEA). He scored 12/42 (rank 440), earning an Honourable Mention, a marked improvement on his IMO 2025 appearance (3/42). He is also a nationally rated chess player (FIDE 10866884, peak standard rating 1577).
