How does Autumn find companies hiring their first sales rep?
Autumn (autumn.ai) finds companies hiring their first sales rep by researching public job posts for explicit first-hire wording, then returning a structured list with the quoted sentence and a link to each post. We gave it one request:
Find companies that published a job post in the
last 90 days whose own wording says the role is
the company's first sales hire. A "Founding AE"
title alone is not enough. Exclude staffing
agencies. Return the exact sentence, the post
URL, team size, latest funding round, who the
role reports to and what the company sells. The task ran for about eight minutes and returned 60 companies, each with 21 details and a source behind every value (outputs and sources).

Does "Founding AE" mean the first salesperson?
Not always, which is why the title alone did not count. Many startups use "Founding Account Executive" for an early seller who joins after others. The request required the post's own text to say it was the first sales hire. Scalar's post is a good example of what passed: the title says "Founding Account Executive," and the description adds, "You'll be our first Account Executive and the first person other than the founder to own a deal from first call to signature."
What do these 60 companies have in common?
In this sample:
- Small teams. 47 of the 57 companies with a known headcount have 25 or fewer people; the median is 9.
- Early funding. 41 have a public round: 24 seed, 8 pre-seed, 7 Series A, and two others (a €500,000 round with no stated stage and an incubator).
- AI products. 42 of the 60 describe what they sell in terms of AI or agents.
- Founders still sell. 39 posts describe today's sales as founder-led. Of the 44 posts that say who the hire reports to, 33 name the CEO or a founder and 11 name one person; none names a sales leader.
- Where the job is. San Francisco appears in 24 job locations and New York in 13; about a dozen roles are outside the US.
- Advertised compensation. 20 posts give on-target earnings in US dollars; 11 of those ranges start at $180,000 or more.
What can a post tell you before you reach out?
More than the company name. CareSwift's post, for example, says "You'll be our first sales hire," and describes an SDR who books demos for the founder to close. That tells you the founder is still closing deals, that the company is starting outbound prospecting, and who to address. It does not tell you their budget or what they plan to buy; those are questions for the conversation.
Which startups are hiring their first sales rep?
Sixty, as of October 18, 2026. Ten of them, from a one-person team to a 50-person company, with the sentence that qualified each:
| Company | Team | What the job post says |
|---|---|---|
| Club Hub | 1 | "We're hiring our first sales hire to own the full sales cycle – from finding schools to closing deals." |
| Nearvana | 2 | "As our first sales hire, you won't just sell – you'll help build." |
| CareSwift | 3 | "You'll be our first sales hire." |
| Hodor | 4 | "This is the first sales hire at Hodor – no inbound, no SDR feeding you, no playbook to inherit." |
| Fig AI | 4 | "You'd be the first sales hire on a team of five, working shoulder to shoulder with the CEO." |
| Jarmin | 7 | "We're looking for our first sales hire to build Jarmin's sales motion from the ground up." |
| Finta | 12 | "Be the first salesperson at a profitable company with 600+ customers" |
| Scalar | 15 | "You'll be our first Account Executive and the first person other than the founder to own a deal from first call to signature." |
| Predikt | 20 | "You'll be the first dedicated sales hire, working shoulder to shoulder with the founders, who lead our enterprise sales today." |
| Sim | 50 | "Serve as the company's first sales hire, converting existing demand from engineering and IT teams into a repeatable sales motion." |
The other 50, with team size, funding, sales motion and location, are in the full run in Autumn.
How do you build this list for your market?
Change the request. The prompt above is the one we ran; add the criteria that matter to you and run it in Autumn:
- A market: "…where the company sells to hospitals" or "…building developer tools".
- A stage or place: "…Y Combinator companies only" or "…based in New York".
- A different first hire: "…their first HR or people operations hire" or "…their first security engineer".
- More columns: the founder's name and profile, or the tools each post names.
To run it from your own product or an agent, use the API. For more research questions like this, see the research prompts guide; for enriching accounts you already have, see the lead enrichment tools guide and the company search API comparison.
How we did this
On October 18, 2026, one Autumn research task searched public job boards and careers pages for posts live between July 20 and October 18, 2026 whose text says the role is the company's first sales hire, excluding "Founding AE" titles without that wording and staffing agencies. 34 of the 60 posts show a posting date in that window. The other 26 show no date and were included because the post was live on October 18, so some may have first gone up before July 20.
On October 19, we checked every row automatically: the quoted sentence appears in the live post for 53 of the 60. Three posts load their text in the browser and could not be checked this way, three sites blocked the check, and one post (Consus) had been taken down. Quotes are verbatim except that long dashes are shown as short ones.
Limits: this is a sample, not every company hiring a first sales rep. Some boards are easier to search than others. Team sizes come from the post or public profiles and can lag. Posts close; check that a role is still open before you reach out.
