Oof, this brings back memories of writing cringy emails to game companies with ideas I had for games. Never got replies sadly

I did this too. Sent an email to id Software complaining about Quake 3 and got a response in the lines of "Those are some interesting ideas." They were obviously not impressed ;)

This is why Minecraft's devs are awesome. Somebody's programming a clone for a personal project? Send out the lawyers Empathize with them on Reddit.

We are very defensive when it comes to Minecraft, as it's our game and trademark, but we do not try to prevent people from making their own games. In the end it's more important that players have fun, even if it's not our game they're playing.

Some more info:

I liked Shale / Seashale, but this isn't shale and maybe we want to add actual shale in the future.

I liked Neptone / Nepton, but I want to avoid referencing Roman mythology (Neptune) if possible. Same with names playing on Atlantis ("Atlantite") and Poseidon.

I picked Prismarine because 1) it sounds good, 2) it references water with "marine", 3) it references its "shimmering effect" I hinted at with "prism", and 4) it doesn't really mean anything in the real world.

Thanks again for all the suggestions, it was super helpful!
